Cmentarz Bonawentury

We arrived at 4:30, our tour left promptly at 5, with Shannon himself. He led us on a fantastic journey through Savannah’s history. Shannon is a master storyteller, and very passionate about the history he is revealing to you as he winds his way through the cemetery. The transformation of the cemetery from light to dark only heightened the drama of the history and gave us a bit of a chill. Yes, there were mosquitoes, so bring bug spray, and definitely wear comfortable shoes! My feet were tired but I just wanted to hear more. I was sorry when I realized it was 8 and the tour was over. I will probably do this tour again.

Shannon was amazing! He filled his tales with History and painted a picture easy to follow. 3 hours of listening to Shannon felt like 10 minutes. We walked away with a great deal of knowledge. If you visit Savannah and you don't take this trip, You are really missing out!! Make sure you bring bug spray!!

Be aware that this walking tour goes on rain or shine. We were in the midst of a torrential rain storm with thunder and lightning when we were to leave for this tour. I texted Shannon, the guide, and got a text they were evaluating. By the time I received another text saying we would go out at 5:30 I knew we would be late. We caught up with the group, but we were trailing throughout the walk. By the time we got to each stop we had missed some of the presentation. The stories were interesting and the terrain was not too difficult even though it rained for at least the first half hour. BUT at the end, the group followed Shannon at a pace we couldn't keep up with. There were no stops along the way to "catch up". One of our group of 3 was ahead of us and as long as we could see her we were ok but at a bend in the path we lost sight of her. When we finally arrived at the end of the walk, I asked how far we had walked back and was told I 1/4 miles. One of our group had a painful back which was why she couldn't walk fast. My advice is, if you are older or unable to walk fast, DO NOT take this tour.
