My friend and I booked the Real Alaska Tour, which lasts about 6 hours. Mike, our tour guide and driver, picked us up at our hotel (Seward Windsong Lodge) and took us straight to the Seavey facility. The dogs were impressive, so energetic and social. Riding the sled seemed a little cheesy but was a lot of fun just the same. Meredith was our musher. She was very friendly and fun. Matt Giblin, explained the complete Ididarod expeience. His knowledge and expertise were clearly apparent. We really felt like we were getting a real behind the scenes peek. We were never rushed even though we hung around a long time cuddling the puppies. After our time with the dogs, Mike took us to lunch at nearby Resurrection Roadhouse. I appreciated that we were given several options. My chowder and salad were very tasty and the portion was generous. Next we headed to Exit Glacier where Mike led a short, easy hike to the base. (bring bug spray...you'll need it for the wooded part of the hike). This is the only glacier you can walk up to easily, so you shouldn't miss it. Mike took his time with everyone, giving us all the impression that he was there for us for as long as we needed. After the glacier, Mike took us to check out a salmon weir and rode us through downtown Seward. He even pulled over to the side of the rode to check out an eagle's nest. One of the two juvenile eagles even tested his wingsfor us. Very cool. Altogether, this was a really fun day. All that was advertised and more.
