Our Alaska Railroad tour included a night at the Seward Windsong Lodge, in close proximity to the Seavey Ididaride and the Exit Glacier. We're so glad our "Real Alaska Tour" package included both activities--and lunch at the Windsong with one of Dan Seavey's grandsons--because we might otherwise have nickel-dimed ourselves out of one of the most enjoyable days of our two-week trip in Alaska.
Learning firsthand from Iditarod mushers and seeing the Seaveys' year-round kennel operations added a dimension to our trip that was irreplaceable. Getting a cart ride pulled by an enthusiastic Iditerod team and seeing a new litter of potential sled dogs capped the experience. And our guide for the kennel, glacier, and Seward tours was knowledgeable, entertaining, and informative.
