Amazing! Our driver from was great she knew a lot of history and could answer all questions. The swamp is fantastic, much to see birds, turtles, and of course alligators. The plantations are great. The oak trees are almost worth the trip by themselves, and the food was good.
The swamp boat adventure was approximately two hours. It was very enjoyable and informative. We saw lots of wildlife and plant-life. The driver of the airboat was extremely knowledgeable. I have problems walking so the van driver arranged for a golf cart to take me from the parking lot to the Plantation Home. Then from the Plantation Home to our lunch. Our van driver told us the slave quarters were replicas and to wait until the second plantation where we would see authentic/original slave quarters. The lunch was edible, but not very good. It did not seem they were expecting us because they had to scramble to replenish the food. We continued to the second plantation stop. It was very nice with a great gift shop. But they do not accept American Express Credit Cards.
Our return to the hotel was okay, but the driver was reluctant to go to the hotels located on Canal Street because there was a festival in the French Quarter. My belief is there is always a festival in the French Quarter. My wife and I were staying at the Hilton Riverside. That was the first stop and the driver asked the remaining passengers to leave the van and take public transportation. Approximately two miles from the Hilton Riverside he was stopped in traffic and wanted to have everyone get out of the van. With my walking problem I told him that was not an option. Bottom line...the Swamp Boat Adventure was worth the money, but you can keep the Plantation Tours.
Except for the rain that day, we had a great time! Got to hold a baby alligator and caught a glimpse of it's Mom. Since it was raining so hard, we did not see much wildlife. Did see a pair of bald eagles. The plantation tours were interesting especially the slave quarters at Laura's Plantation. All of the guides were very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to.
