Wycieczka kajakiem w małej grupie w Shell Key

Przegląd
We've created a fascinating kayak tour in St Pete, centered on our Crystal Clear kayaks, giving you a fascinating look at the sea life throughout Shell Key preserve, and Fort Desoto park. Our professional guides provide an interesting narration of the local wildlife and ecosystem. The tours can range from 2 persons to 16 people, and are approximately 2 to 2 -1/2  hours long.  The tours will primarily operate in the protected waters and mangroves tunnels of the Shell Key Wildlife Preserve in Pinellas County. An 1,800 acre preserve, these waters are well traveled by Dolphins, Manatees, Rays, as well as a variety of shore birds, including pelicans, egrets, herons, cormorants, osprey, and sometimes roseate spoonbills.

The area and trip is worth it. I’d just recommend using real kayaks. There is no advantage to the clear kayaks because there is nothing to see. They are too wide and require far more brute strength to maneuver and get across open areas that are windy. In a slim lighter kayak the ride is much more enjoyable. I e now done both

Jamie thank you for the feedback. Although if you thought there was nothing to see I would say you weren't looking, and missed the cormorants swimming below you, as well as the snook and redfish hiding in the seagrass beds. I'm also puzzled by the brute strength comment because we have 70-something folks do this tour every day. Nevertheless, thank you for riding with us.

The water is generally 3-4 feet deep(and we went during high tide) This description is well worded: “You'll get the finest kayaking experience around the Shell Key preserve mangroves from a transparent Clear Kayak. You'll see more fascinating sights than you would from a regular kayak. Your professional guide will give you an interesting narration on the background and the biology of the 1,800 acre Shell Key preserve. “ As it states: “You'll see dolphins, manatees, rays, horseshoe crab, and a variety of shore birds. Island Ferry offers the finest Shell Key kayaking tours in St Pete!” However, manatees were not mentioned and it was the one thing I was really hoping to see. The water is not clear, mostly birds and clams, conch shells, were seen. I interpreted as I’d see creatures swimming I’m under me, hence the clear kayak. However, I couldn’t see much also water isn’t clear and didn’t see a single large creature during our tour. Would have chosen regular kayaks next time. Clear kayaks are wider and take more rowing 🚣‍♀️ With that said. Guide was very good and was very informative and helped find the smaller creatures throughout tour. I would do it again, but don’t expect to see large creatures. I would have to adjust my expectations. Went in 75 degree perfect weather small breeze. Late Feb.

Thank you for the feedback Kellijean. Yes water clarity can vary from day to day, and a windy day can churn up the bottom in shallow waters. But even on that Sunday most of us saw the Cormorant swimming below us as they chased the bait fish stirred up by the kayaks. And we find paddling through the mangrove tunnels is a fascinating experience, but I guess that didn't impress you too much, I did explain before you booked that February is very early in the Manatee season, and that if seeing the large mammals is a priority, you'd be better served by one of our boat tours. In any case, thanks again for riding with us. - Sebastian.

This was a great experience exploring on the water with Olivia and Fraser guiding us and explaining lots to see. They are really friendly and helpful. The mangrove tunnels and the stop for 20mins on the island were amazing Tips are to bring water as you paddle quite away and a hat is good if hot and sunny as we experienced. You need to be reasonably but not super fit as you're paddling for a few long stretches. Great opportunity for photos so bring your phone but keep it safe and dry - I have a waterproof pouch for mine Olivia took some photos to email to us but we didn't receive ours - it's not a worry but tip is to take your own
