Observe the endangered West Indian Manatee in Crystal River’s idyllic Kings Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Your US Coast Guard licensed captains and guides will take you into the 600 acre spring fed refuge waters for viewing and snorkeling with these slow moving wild giants. All equipment, fees, snacks and beverages are included.

River Ventures

Embark on your journey with a Coast Guard Certified Master Captain who will be your in water chaperon, educator and photographer. Your tour will run four hours from start to finish and everything you will need is included for one price. You will begin at our full-service tour facility, where you will be educated about the animals in a classroom type setting and receive tips for your snorkel tour to make the most of your day. You will be taught the in’s and out’s of ‘passive interaction’ as this ensures that the animals enjoy the experience as much as we do! You will then be suited up and transported to the dock, where a Coast Guard certified covered pontoon will be waiting for you. This rich estuary will amaze…..birds, fish and wildlife abound! Submerge yourself in the manatee’s world! Finish your adventure by viewing your Captain’s photos back at our facility and be sure to visit our one-of-a-kind gift shop! Our well-informed staff will direct to other local attractions, restaurants and answer of your questions before you are on your way.

We had such a great time on our manatee tour! It was will worth the early wake up time to get out on the water at sunrise. Our captain and in water guide were personable, knowledgeable, and put us right on the manatees. They made sure everyone in the tour had a good experience and captured pictures of everyone too. Thank you to our crew (I wanna say Gavin and JJ) and everyone at River Ventures for an amazing day.

It was important to my girlfriend and me that we had an authentic experience that respected the manatees and that’s exactly what we got, thanks to River Ventures. Our tour guide Derick was knowledgeable and very respectful of the wildlife we encountered. He got some incredible photos in the water and was probably the only guide to get each person on the boat in a shot with a manatee. Of course, Captain Mike ensured the experience rocked, too! We went on the 6:45AM tour and decided to to the VIP tour just to have a smaller group on our boat. Don't forget your towels and try not to bring much on the boat, as anything you truly need will be provided. If you have a GoPro or underwater camera, definitely bring it, but try to enjoy the experience, as the guides will get some great pictures. I was incredibly happy with the entire experience with River Ventures, from start to finish. Their entire team was approachable and set reasonable expectations. Remember - these are wild animals, so it is a bit unrealistic to expect to get a selfie with a manatee in the wild. I can't say enough about this and can't wait to book with River Ventures again.

My family had a private group tour with Gavin and Irish Dave and it was fantastic! They worked hard to find manatees who were likely to want to interact with us, and teach us how to have positive interactions with them. They were personable and knowledge and we learned a lot about manatees, their habitat, and their behavior, as well as the other animals in the river. Swimming with the manatees was amazing - a true privilege and a joy, but not all of our party swam. However, even the people who chose not to swim got to see plenty of manatees from the comfort of the heated boat. We all had a lot of fun! It was a truly wonderful experience and I can't recommend it more!
