Our guide was Joe and he was fabulous! On the scenic parts of the trip he gave us recommendations, pointed out wildlife, and told great stories! If you get a choice, ask for him! (Note: all the guides seemed really nice).
As for the trip, it's a drive down and back to the area where the float takes place. But it's a pretty drive. We wore sporty clothes, GOT SOAKED!, and rode back wet. LOL. But it wasn't bad. So if you don't want to to change there, you'll be fine.
We chose the small raft and I'm so glad we did!!
The actual rafting was really fun. It was our first time and we didn't know what to expect. The very first rapid we encountered was a bit scary, but after that it was so much fun we all wanted more. We went in August so the rapids were not as intense as they are earlier in the year. We hit many rapids on the trip, and a few of them were intense for a few seconds (BUT FUN!). And there was also a lot of scenic floating. I suggest you check with the company on the condition of the rapids so you will know what to expect.
Our trip was at 1pm. The water was not cold. There were times when the sun was behind a cloud that it got a little chilly - but not bad. If you don't like to be cold and wet and it's a cloudy day, plan accordingly.
All in all, well worth it and I would definitely do it again!
