THE BEST SMALL BOAT ON THE RIVER! If you want the most exciting, bumpiest, wettest ride down the Snake River Canyon, look no further. Lewis & Clark's small boat is your best choice. It’s not just an “8-man raft.” It’s Jackson Hole’s smallest guided boat, and the ONLY remaining paddle only raft on the river. No other outfitter offers a raft more exciting than our 14-foot self-bailers. With 4-7 paddling positions, max 8 guests, this boat guarantees more thrills per mile than any other on the Snake. Rafts launch at West Table and take out at Sheep Gulch in the Snake River Canyon, with 8 miles of Class II and III whitewater interspersed with calm stretches, and opportunities to swim. Trips take 3 to 4 hours round-trip from our office at 180 Powderhorn Ln. Private Rafts Available, call to book.

WHAT TO WEAR: We provide a splash jacket to every customer free upon arrival at the launch site on our whitewater trips. The best clothes are ones that dry quickly. A bathing suit is usually the best way to start. Synthetic shorts or trunks and a light polyesteror other synthetic shirt are fine for warm days. Cool days require a bit more preparation. Always avoid heavy cotton clothing like jeans or sweat pants and sweatshirts. Cotton is extremely absorbent and will soak up all that river water, making you wet and cold. Synthetic clothing such as polar fleece, rash guards, exercise wear, thermal underwear, nylon jog pants, tights and polypro are your best choices when the weather is cooler and are all better choices than cotton. For maximum comfort on cooler days, a wetsuit may be the best choice. They’re available for rent at our office. Secure shoes are required for all trips. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Sneakers are fine and sandals are good on warmer days, but they must have a heel strap and stay on if you had to go for a swim. (no flip-flops or Crocs!) Neoprene booties are available for rent as well. We also recommend that you bring along some dry clothes to leave on the bus. They’ll be waiting for you there when you get off the river.

Lewis and Clark River Expeditions, one of the last mom and pop river rafting companies. This was a great experience. I recommend 1000%. For many reasons: 1. Being a mom and pop you can tell they value their employees. They have had the same crew for years. Unlike the competitors, being large chain companies, they don’t care and end up hiring less experienced guides. 2. The guides are experienced and knowledgeable. Our guide, Luke, was so experienced and knowledgeable about the water and how rapids work and how to keep us safe while rafting them. He is certified water rescue first responder. His confidence and calm demeanor made me feel safe. I am usually a pretty anxious person and when I’m anxious I cannot enjoy an activity, he is the reason this was such a great and memorable experience. 3. The trip was so fun! It was a good mix of relaxing and adventurous rapids and even if the weather and water didn’t deal us a good hand ( because these are things Lewis and Clark cannot control) our guide made it fun and enjoyable! 4. They had a great transport set up. They allowed us to drive separate from the bus down to the parking area but still drove us back to our car after. I did see complaints about the walk back from the boat dock; however, this is a boat dock all the rafting companies use not just Lewis and Clark, so it’s gonna be hard to avoid. I thought it was nice little hike and gave you some pretty views. 5. Last but not least the owner has a beautiful dog named Arlo at the shop that is a therapy dog to help calm guest and kids before the trip! I could go on and on but I strongly recommend this company, let’s support local and great quality guides!

Our guide Izak was great! We reserved the small raft for ourselves and our kids (21, 17, 14) and glad we did as it made for a more exciting experience.

My wife and I opted for the small boat as we felt it would be more exciting. It was! Apparently we were the very rare smell boat that actually flipped over in Big Kahuuna. Thanks to the well trained staff at Lewis and Clark, our guide, Mitch, righted the raft and hauled my wife and I back in the boat. The other larger rafts they offer were nearby and hauled in the rest of our group. Fortunately, we had rented the wet suits so we never got very cold at all. A very exciting, fun, and safe trip down the Snake River. We highly recommend Lewis and Clark when you're in the Jackson Hole area. Thanks again Mitch, you are awesome!

Thanks for the review. We never WANT to flip, but it is possible on any Class III rapid. It sounds as though you followed instructions and stayed calm as advised. The big eddy below Lunch Counter is a great pick-up spot if you don't get right back to your boat. So much depends on water level, which varies greatly from beginning to end of season.
