We went into Salem for the day and particularly wanted an evening walking tour. I felt the Salem Witch Walk would be an interesting twist without the typical ghost stories. My kids, 11 and 12, enjoy scary experiences, but we all also appreciate historical accuracy and I felt this event description provided that.
Our group for 7pm at first was HUGE. One guide would be taking half the group at 7pm and Tom would be taking the other half at 7:15pm. We started our day at 6:30am and we were tired but we could tell already that Tom was the way to go! We waited until 7:15pm. Tom was awesome!
He opens with a blessing/wish. It was a fascinating experience for me and the kids and Tom really tries to welcome everyone who is willing to participate no matter what their denomination. He takes the "spookiness" out of it. He is honest, open, and very funny!
This tour was 2 hours... It doesn't have stops where you stop, look at a specific thing and listen about it, necessarily. Sometimes you just walk, stop somewhere random and Tom gives what seems like a tidbit of sorts. All the information is interesting, but sometimes where you're walking isn't interesting. Be prepared for that! If you have little kids or picky group members who don't want to look at apartment buildings and hear that this is where the courthouse USED TO BE, maybe the tour isn't for you. A lot of the historical buildings in Salem simply are no longer there....
Tom gives the information straight, from the history to the present. He's open to questions. I would take this same tour again!
