After reading lots of reviews I decided to book with SMO for our rafting trip. I do think it was a fun experience and would consider doing it again, however I think majority of the experience lies on your guide. When you have a friendly and knowledgeable one, it seems everyone has a great time. But for us, our girl was very dry, didn’t like when we talked to others in our raft, and was basically scolding the kids for not being experts. She made it not so enjoyable. All of the guides with SMO didn’t look a day over 18 which was scary when you have kids or large adults. Life jackets can only do so much in some cases it falls on the guide. Also, the rapids as big and scary as we thought.

We are so sorry that your experience was not good with our guide. We do get new guides every year and they go through extensive training. There are plenty that are college age. It is only a temporary position for the summer. However, we have one as young as 76. You didn't tell us the name of the guide. We would love to correct this and move forward. We are glad she guided you safely back to the Outpost. We would love to make this up to you. We absolutely agree that the guide is vital to your good time on the river. White Water Rafting was a lot of fun. I took my family who have never been white water rafting before (12 & 10 yo). This was the right level for them to do on their 1st trip. I have been before and was thinking there would be more high level rapids, so not as much excitement as expected. I do think that the Lower Pigeon River Raft trip would have been boring for my family. Upper Pigeon River is very DO-ABLE by a BEGINNER! I enjoyed being able to jump in the River and swim for a bit, the water was chilly but nice. We rafted through Rain and we could hear the Thunder but no lightning. At all times I felt like we were safe and I give that credit to our Guide, she was wonderful. She did a great job of moving the raft to make sure everyone in the boat got wet and were able to enjoy some of the big rapids! Great adventure for a vacation memory!

WOOHOO!! So happy you loved it. The Pigeon River has four class four rapids, after that, threes....etc. So it is very doable for everyone. Come back again and bring your friends!!

First time white water rafting. Our guide was Katy and she did an amazing job. She told us a lot about the river, surrounding area and local history. Great experience and I definitely recommend SMO (and Katy).
