We booked two first class tickets and really enjoyed the ride and scenery as well as the history. Unfortunately, passengers who spoke very loud drowned out some of the narration which was a real shame. The open air cars are nice for photography but unfortunately, one cannot hear the narration if they are in one of these cars. Would be nice if headphones were provided to allow the passenger to photograph the view as well as enjoy the narration. The charcuterie plate was very nice and ample. Thinking this would be a great day adventure when it snows. We had hoped to see some eagles and I had read that Liberty Wildlife brings one on board but that did not happen.

My wife and I have looked forward to the Verde Canyon Railroad Experience since spring 2020, when things shut down due to COVID-19. The train was operating at approximately 50% capacity due to the pandemic, and safety protocols were in place for the entire experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire train experience and were fortunate to have excellent weather- sunny and temps in the upper 80s. We made reservations online a few weeks before the date we selected and booked the First-Class option. For a few extra dollars, First Class is the best way to enjoy this train ride. We had a table for two in our air-conditioned train car, and had plenty of room to sit and enjoy the ride. The boxed snack that was provided was enjoyable, and is enough to be considered a light lunch. Plenty of cold bottled water was furnished and cocktails and beer could be purchased. The scenery was absolutely outstanding. We spent most of the 3 1/2 hour, 40 mile round-trip on the open-air car to enjoy all the scenery. We took a lot of photos and videos on the train ride. We enjoyed the narration and the music playing in the background. The attendants on the train were great. It was interesting to see how the engines switched positions on the train in Perryville to pull the train back to Clarkdale. The length of the overall trip was just right - any longer would have been boring and any shorter would have been too rushed. Our recommendations are to go First Class, book the trip online early, bring a camera or two and be prepared to be amazed by the beautiful scenery of the Verde River Valley and the rock formations on this classical train ride. PS: When we booked the trip online, we were not aware that you could enter an AARP senior citizen code in the reservation and save about $20 per couple. Consider that a tip if you are a senior citizen. Also look for other discount codes. We highly recommend the Verde Canyon Railroad Experience.

This was a really cool experience. I cannot say enough about the staff. They were genuinely enthusiastic about the trip and Michelle and Corey were AMAZING! It is a beautiful and unique trip and I would recommend to anyone close by! The first class experience was worth it! The snacks were delicious! My suggestions would be: change the music, give Corey a mic pack, and more trash/recycling receptacles outside the station. The music was very loud and overpowering. I get the theme of trains and travel but if it wasn’t for you, it wasn’t avoidable. Additionally, the staff had to yell over the loud music and loud tracks. Staff might benefit from a portable mic pack so that they don’t have to scream. There was an audio track with information but it was hard to hear. Having the live person telling those who were interested was a better option. In a dream world, we could have picked our car and seats but I understand that’s more difficult than it may seem. Overall , the station, staff, and train itself were great quality and a must do for the Verde Valley.
