On an 8 hour trip you can spend more time looking for different species, which we tried by heading to the back side of Catalina. Unfortunately we came up empty there, but found two gray whales that breached five times. The Captain was determined to provide us with a unique experience and he succeeded. We also saw thousands of common dolphin and coastal bottlenose dolphin. A wonderful time on the water.

This is the second year we have gone out with Dana Wharf Whale Watching and Sportfishing. I am trying to start a tradition with my 5 grandkids and their moms. Last year we went in November and saw several humpbacks from afar, lots of spouts and tails and humps sighted and we had the thrill of one that swam right under the boat! It was super exciting for all of us and the kids were ecstatic. This year we went in the latter part of January and did not see any whales. However we did travel with 2 huge pods of common dolphins who truly seemed to enjoy swimming along with the boat! The kids were super excited and we adults were too. It made up for not seeing whales. Any time you get up close and personal with creation it is amazing. It was an absolutely beautiful clear SoCal day. The crew is friendly, the staff at the store when checking in is friendly and the kids left saying "this is going to be a tradition, right?" So I am certain we'll be back next year! Couldn't have had a better day.

We loved the trip. The crew was very patient and that resulted in us seeing whales, dolphins and sea lions. The boat had coffee/snacks. The ground staff was very friendly. (Rates are low on Tuesdays)
