Big Creek was recommended to us by our campground, Smoky Mountain Premier RV Resort (which is also wonderful!). My 16, 13 and 9 year old all loved it. I was a little apprehensive but the guides are excellent about reviewing safety tips, giving direction while you are rafting and making the entire trip safe and enjoyable. This is definitely a beginner white water trip as there are only about 3 or 4 areas with class 4 rapids to navigate through. It was fun and gave us the courage to seek out bigger adventures on our next trip. Our guide, Wayne, was top notch. He was extremely knowledgeable of the river and surrounding area. He had a calm and steady demeanor. He prepared us well and gave easy to follow directions. He has a true love for the water and nature and he definitely added to this great experience!

So glad we chose Big Creek for our first time to go white water rafting!!! Online reservation was easy and quick. Ours was on July 21st at 11:30. Staff at the desk were all very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The items in their gift shop were not overpriced either and you can be sure we bought shirts to show off to friends! Our guide, Stefan (or Stephen or Steven - so sorry I'm not sure how it's spelled or even pronounced!) was absolutely fantastic! He made our trip on the Upper Pigeon River very safe, very informative, and very, very fun! It was our first time to go white water rafting and my husband and I were at first very apprehensive because we have a 15 yr old and a 12 yr old. However, our guide made all our fears go away! Thank you so much!

Our family had a blast on our first white water rafting trip on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions. Elton was our guide who expertly navigated up through the upper rapids and shared his knowledge of the area, river and rafting techniques. Super friendly. I would recommend the last trip of the day (4:30) as there wasn't a rush to return for the next group (they only go out on certain days of the week). Although the upper rapids goes up to a category 4, we had a young girl maybe 8-9 yrs old who did fine. No one fell out...yea! Also, there are regular toilets and showers for changing with electric outlets for hair dryers.
