This is the classic whitewater rafting trip experience down the Grand Canyon of the Snake River. It doesn't take all day, but you'll wish it did. The rapids are fun and the calm sections of river let you relax and enjoy the scenery all around you. There are non-paddling and paddling positions in this raft all watched over by an experienced whitewater rafting guide. River Class I-III (easy to moderate).

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Please wear shoes that can get wet that will not fall off your feet. An old pair of running shoes or water shoes would be your best option. You must wear footwear in the raft, so we do have booties available for rent if you do not have footwear. Sizes run 2 – 15 and can be rented upon arrival for $5.00 per pair.
Please wear synthetic clothing if possible and bring layers. Synthetics are best for the river because they dry faster than cotton. A bathing suit underneath shorts and a t-shirt is fine for a nice, warm, summer day.
Conditions can be variable; you may experience a cold day on the river. (Not to worry, it will still be a lot of fun. You just have to dress appropriately!)
We have wet suits & wet suit jackets available for rent. Wet suits are $10.00 to rent. Wet suit jackets are $5.00 to rent.
Splash gear is complimentary. On a cold day, you’ll want a bathing suit to wear under the wet suit.
Bring a change of dry clothes and a towel!
Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are highly recommended.
Gratuity not included.
Please note: kids must weigh at least 50 pounds or more to go rafting!

Our family group recently did the Classic 8 mile trip and had a great time. The guide, Boone and his trainee did a fantastic job keeping us out of the water during the current high water conditions. We picked this time of the year for the trip because we had been told on other trips how exciting this time of year it can be if the river is high. We had expected to be on the river longer based on the description but the bus ride to and from the river is added into the tour time. Also, had we known wet suits were mandatory we would have arrived sooner (the size chart is not very accurate) and not held up the bus. Mad River is the most safety minded company we have rafted with and since all the white water rafting companies do the same 8 miles we would highly recommend Mad River.

The scenery is second to none, and our guide Jimmie was a hilarious delight. The water was unusually high so the rapids were amazing. Everyone I met who works for Mad River was unusually friendly and helpful. They either hire really great people or keep prozac in the company break room :) Really great experience.

Nate was our guide today on the 12:30 whitewater rafting trip. Snake river at 22,500 cfs, normal I think is 14k cfs. I was with a party of six family members, total of 10 riders on our raft. The Lunchcounter rapid ate our lunch, the 18’ raft “dumptrucked” all riders into the river, and nearly would have flipped without the expert skills of our guide Nate. Nate and our kayaker extraordinaire Ryan located everyone and pulled us to safety, with the assistance of our second raft guided by AJ, before we reached the next rapids. I got more excitement than I bargained for on my 54th birthday, and I cannot say enough about the professionalism and frankly, HEROISM, of Nate, Ryan, Will and AJ. Mad River Boat Trips is a Class Act that provided pre-ride instruction that was critical to our rescue, and also provided wetsuits and HELMETS that made a HUGE difference to our final outcome. Several other boat outfits passed by as we regrouped on the river, and we were shocked to see boats full of guests with no wetsuits or HELMETS (Dave Henson Whitewater) that made our trip an ultimate success. Any future trips downriver we make will be with Mad River Boat Trips.
