  • If the guest needs a wheelchair lift equipped bus, then special arrangements need to be made with the supplier. This must be arranged 48 hours prior to tour date. Contact details will be on your voucher.
  • Guests visiting Whitney using a wheelchair will have access to the gift shop, restrooms, and museum. The plantation grounds are accessible; however, there are uneven gravel paths. The main house tour is not accessible to guest traveling in wheelchairs and is not required to be modified as it is a historic home; however, the first floor is accessible. Guests would be able to view the slave quarters, but would not have access to enter.

The plantation was very interesting and I enjoyed the self guided tour. A lot of info was very emotional! It would have been nice to have lunch or at least food offered with a tour that long.

Unfortunately we had very cold windy weather! Also our guide announced at the start was not feeling well so would not be talking much. As history buffs we were very disappointed as had hoped to learn a lot about this time in history! The displays at the interpretive center were excellent and held a lot of information to absorb on your own.

This experience included a bus ride to the Whitney Plantation and a self-guided audio tour through the plantation. We enjoyed listening to the audio, which included recorded interviews from enslaved people, historians, and others, instead of doing a guided tour. We had just enough time to do the whole audio tour. This plantation is set up to be educational and is focused on the experience of the enslaved people who lived there. The art and memorials were moving, beautiful, and impactful.
