I had four days in Yosemite and had no plans. EXCEPT, I went ahead and scheduled a day hike that started Glacier Point. Now, mind you...I had no idea what that entailed as I've never been to Yosemite before!
I won't elaborate on the other three days (which were awesome) but I still had no idea about this one. The folks from Lasting Adventures communicated with me VERY WELL. The were quick and responsive.
I was going as a SOLO hiker. This didn't bother me as I'm outgoing so I figured I'd meet some new friends. Well, on Sunday morning it turned out to be me and my guide - Gabe "Critter" Kee. What a knowledgeable and kind man! We ended up sharing quite a bit about ourselves during our 6 hour hike, that I will remember for a lifetime.
OK...back to the trip. You take a 30 or 40 min bus ride to TOP of Glacier Point. Critter pointed out all the points of interest from up there. Then we started our hike DOWN and UP but mostly DOWN.
If you're in reasonably good shape (I'm 61, trim and pretty decent shape) you can do this. Critter was good at stopping whenever I felt the need. He also is a wealth of knowledge of the area as he's hiked Yosemite extensively. I was in excellent hands.
We went past several of the parks Falls and finally came to The Mist Trail. BRING RAIN GEAR as you will get SOAKED. The great thing is, you'll run into the crowds, but they'll be coming UP and you're going down! Bring GOOD TRACTION Hiking boots or shoes. Mine are a little worn out and I'll toss them now.
In short, if you're looking for a hike that will push you some - this is the hike to choose. If you can get Critter as your guide - even better!
