Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was good, and several items provided. Captain tried to ensure the best experience although weather was terrible. Saw beautiful scenery and some wildlife.

You can see there are many glowing reviews here . I think I may have enjoyed it more if i had a window seat or if it was not so rainy. You may have a more enjoyable tour if you manage to get those things. My review is based on the fact that they assign seats and the seats we were given were far from windows and too crowded to sit in for my tall husband. The tiny table we shared with two other people was 3-4 tables from any windows. We only sat when we were too cold and wet from trying to see something outside. Inside all the others crammed into small tables would stand all around us so that someone’s back was directly next to where i was sitting. It felt like i was suffocating in bodies all around. I am not that sensitive to crowds but this was extreme. Several times people leaned against me or almost sat on me and it felt overwhelming. We could not hear anything outside so we missed lunch announcement and came in to a cold soup. We had trouble getting to see wildlife because even though we waited outside in the rain, as soon as anything was announced inside , a hoard of people rushed outside and much of the time we happened to be in the wrong place so we were stuck behind a crowd of people. I understand that a boat this big holds a lot of people so this is inevitable but i wish i had booked on a smaller boat. There is another company with small boats. The water is pretty smooth and a smaller boat would be fine! Phillips does provide a nice lunch and we were able to see most of the glaciers but the crowd and being assigned to a very small table in the middle made it less the optimal. But if you are lucky enough to get a window seat of which there are few , it might be more enjoyable. It is just luck of the draw. We were one of the first to arrive and we still were placed at the center table. It also would be nicer if you are coming with a group of four who are all shorter people so you can fit at the table better. Next time id take the lazy otter tour or skip whittier and just take a major marine tour out of Seward( which was an excellent tour of glaciers and all the wildlife!!)

The boat was a huge catamaran that gave you no feeling like you were on a boat - completely steady and no rolling with the waves. They give you assigned seats to get your lunch but you are encouraged to move all around the ship, inside, outside, upstairs, etc. Lunch was included with the cruise and it was actually delicious and hearty. There had complimentary tea and coffee but no decaf of either which was disappointing. For lunch we had an absolutely delicious smoked salmon chowder along with yummy and fresh made coleslaw (wish the coleslaw portion had been a little bigger), cheese, a roll, fruit snacks and a peppermint patty. Later in the day they served warm chocolate chip cookies. The cruise took us past 26 amazing glaciers and we even saw an iceberg. We got up very close to "Harvard" and we saw it calve and there were huge chunks of ice floating in front of it, like in the movie "Titanic". The views of all the glaciers and scenery were spectacular. It was REALLY COLD standing outside but so worth it because it was amazing to see the sights so close. We also saw seals, sea otters and a whale spout. The captain and the Park Ranger were fantastic guides. This cruise allowed me to see exactly what I came to Alaska hoping to see. I highly recommend this cruise and cruise company. We got to visit the teeny town of Whittier while waiting for the cruise. It has a couple of super cute gift shops and eateries. Adorable tiny town.
