Departing from downtown Anchorage, the Coastal Classic Train travels south along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives to Seward at 1115 am, allowing plenty of time to explore this charming port town – or opt to take a marine wildlife & glacier day cruise into the nearby Kenai Fjords.

DO THIS!!! Our cruise was out of Seward and we decided this was the best way to get there from Anchorage. Oh Me Oh My! Wow! 1. Check in was extremely busy. Lots of cruisers and the Depot felt pretty small. Get here early and book ahead of time to save your spot. 2. Boarding was easy. The train is older but it felt very comfortable. I kind of felt like i was stepping back in time to the 1940s. So old, but charming , clean, and comfortable. 3. The ride was smooth. Get a good night sleep. Otherwise it will rock you right to sleep. 4. The views are spectacular. Yo can move about the cabin(s). We stayed put most of the time. It was so beautiful. There was no bad view from anywhere. 5. The bathrooms needed attention after 2-3 hours. This was the one down side. It was pretty icky in there. MUST DO!!!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. The scenery was absolutely awesome. Lots of commentary. Just loved not having to worry about our luggage when we reached Seward. It was delivered to our accommodation. Great service. Would recommend this trip to anyone. All went smoothly.

It was rainy that day but we saw some of the most beautiful sceneries and spotted some wild animals. Our seat didn’t have a clear view as it was located between the windows and was misty so had to stand up to get a view of outside
