Departing from downtown Anchorage, the Coastal Classic Train travels south along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives to Seward at 1115 am, allowing plenty of time to explore this charming port town – or opt to take a marine wildlife & glacier day cruise into the nearby Kenai Fjords.

Beautiful views! We were in adventure class and had huge picture window and lots of leg room. We were told only a small backpack or purse online, but there is an overhead rack which could hold both or room even by feet (Husband is 6’3” and he had room by feet)! We checked our bag and it was brought to our hotel. At least a restroom in each car. Very enjoyable experience. Coffee or mimosas were available (It left at 6:45 am).

Seats are assigned a few days ahead. Call if you have request. First car is best. All board at same time. No need to be early

Beautiful scenery. I was able to relax and enjoy it!! There were many animals to see along the way. We seen goats, a bear, and eagles.
