We purchased a 3 day hop on and off ticket, and we only used it once. It was in the mid 80’s on April 4-6, and none of the air conditioners were on. As a result, everyone tried to ride in the upper deck. Due to the large crowds Easter week and the unbearable heat inside the bus, which made it almost impossible to ride, buses were continually full, and no one could board, which caused delays. Also, buses were too bunched up, which caused large time gaps between stops. I realize that Easter is a busy week for tourists, but that should have been expected, and better planning should be taken into consideration.

The bus took 30 minutes to start the loop. Meanwhile other buses came and left. There was no explanation for our delay. So we sat in the sun for 30 minutes. The bus was packed with children sitting on the aisle floor and people standing on the stairs and in the aisle. The audio didn’t match the location many times (either too early or too late). I had a two day pass but after riding the loop on day 1, I chose to pay a taxi to take us around. It was not what I expected.

Did get to see everything we wanted to. Got off at Arlington and took their trolley. Changing of the guard was highlight of trip.

Hey Mary! We’re really sorry to hear that you faced some challenges with our stairs, and we hope you’re okay. Because our buses are open on top, it can be tricky to keep the downstairs cool, as the cool air tends to flow out through the stairwell. Our buses do have air conditioning, but it works differently than in standard vehicles. The open nature of the bus means it mainly provides airflow, resulting in only a mild cooling effect downstairs. We’d love for you to experience it again in another city or in Washington DC.
