So we did the sunset / bioluminescent kayaking combo. Background on us - we are part of a local kayak group and I planned this trip for my birthday weekend. We had 11 people from the kayaking group here in SFL - A mix of adults and teenagers 13+.
This feedback below includes all feedback I heard about the trip from everyone in our group:
The greatness:
- it was fantastic! You will NEVER regret this trip.
- I had a manatee come up and nuzzle my boat - I did enjoy seeing them up close! Living here, i've seen them a lot, but it was pretty cool being in the water with them.
- The bioluminescence was AMAZING!! I've seen it before but never to that degree. We saw mullet swimming through it and lighting up as they swam by. It was just phenomenal!
- We were able to see the milky way, I saw a shooting star, it was pretty much perfect!!
- EVERY person in the group loved the trip (even the ones who aren't always so easy to impress).
What was just ok (keeping in mind we organize and kayak all over the state groups of 20+ so our perspective may be different):
- the break between the sunset and bioluminescent - It would have been nice to have the option to sit on the water - I didn't really have any reason to get out - had drinks in my cooler, didn't need the bathroom. BRING A LOT OF BUG SPRAY!! I'm sure in retrospect this is a safety measure because they don't know who is ok on the water and who is not.
- Be aware double kayaks is more or less the ONLY option. Most of the groups out there had double kayaks and i see the case for it - makes managing that many people much easier esp in the dark. Just would have been nice to know that prior. I thought it was like everywhere else I've rented - it's single kayaks - double's upon request. Esp at the price point, it never occurred to me it was doubles. If you are used to your own kayak, a double takes some getting used to. I think in the future, I would just bring my own yak.
- Loved the guide who took up the rear, Tony - he was super friendly and nice. My husband and I hung back with him most of the trip. The other guy was ok - a little gruff. Someone in my group looked wistfully at another tour and said, they look so organized and informative. It wasn't a deal breaker - everyone had fun. This stuff was mentioned to me though.
All in all, everyone loved it. Everyone said it was their favorite kayaking trip so far. I think we would all do it again. Thanks for a fantastic time!!

Shannon,
Thanks so much for the awesome and detailed review - and for the beautiful pictures you included! We think the tour is pretty cool in our opinion, and we love hearing that people feel the same way. :) We do use tandem kayaks for the our tours which is listed on our website on the FAQ. We're glad you were able to have a great experience either way. If you, or the person in your group, would also like to send us an e-mail on why they felt it was disorganized, we would love to get their feedback so we can improve our tours even more. We would love to have you guys join us for another tour in the future, maybe our Silver Springs Monkey Tour!
