Charleston City Market

Our Barn is located just off of the Charleston City Market. You will meet your certified tour guide here and then you will depart on your hour long horse or mule drawn carriage tour. The carriage will go through the City gate at the market where the tour guide is assigned a tour route. You will see about 30 blocks of the historic district which will include beautiful architecture, churches, buildings, gardens and more. The tour returns to the Big Red Barn.

The tour and narrator were outstanding. We saw many of the sites in Charleston that we were interested in. All the people were friendly. The only improvement they could make would be to give the tour guide a microphone and place speakers in the rear. We sat in the back row and traffic noise frequently made it difficult to hear what the gentleman was saying as he navigated in the streets with his cart.

This was a fun tour of some of the churches, houses & history of Charleston. Our carriage had Chester, the 2200 lb Amish horse and his driver who looked like Owen Wilson. I love that he was Chester's trainer and also takes care of him daily. Nice to see that personal care of the horses. I might've learned as much about the career of a horse pulling a carriage as I did about Charleston, but I loved it. I did also learn some fun facts about Charleston. It's kind of random what route they will be assigned when all 3 carriage companies leave the barns. The city assigns the route with a bingo like machine so not all the carriages will be on the same street. And I love that Charleston has a poop brigade that comes after the horses do their business keeping the streets clean and non- smelly. I highly recommend this as a fun tour, even for solo travelers & kids.
