Experience the thrill of riding in one of Alaska's oldest modes of transportation! The dogsled! Towns, villages and lifestyles were created using the traditional style dogs that you will meet while on your tour. Learn of the rich history of Chatanika from one of our guides while travelling through a beautiful boreal forest.
We only have 2 tour slots a day to give each group ample time. This is a small family run business and you will be greeted and guided by an owner the entire time here. We do accomidate families/large groups & single travelers! For group size requests over 6 guests please contact Howling Bay Kennel direct through their website.
Our weight limit per guest is 250lbs clothed. If you exceed the weight limit, but meet the physical requirements and can comfortably participate, we may be able to accomidate you as a single rider for a double booking fee. We took 2 tours with them- a dog sledding tour and the Northern Lights tour. The dog sledding tour was very adventurous! They were very accommodating of our comfort and ensured that we had warm enough gear. Keeley took pictures for us half way through the trip. The dogs are so sweet, you can tell that they are well cared for. As for the Northern lights tour, they picked us up at our hotel, which made it nice to not have to worry about driving on the dark, icy roads. We spent the evening in the dome, which was warm and cozy. They offered snacks and drinks and made sure that we had everything we needed! Keeley and Kirk were very knowledgeable about the Northern lights and shared the app that shows the activity level of the aurora. Throughout the night, they were happy to take pictures for us, which turned out great, despite the fact that the aurora wasn't super active. Their camera really captured the vibrant colors, better than the naked eye. We would totally recommend Howling Bay Kennels for tours in the future!

The best part was the people on this tour. They knew everything about dog sledding and I even got the opportunity to partially drive one of the sleds as well as experiencing laying in one. The dogs were so big and fluffy and excited for oats and loved the interactions. The people take the best care with their dogs and I can’t wait to come back and do it again with even more friends!
