Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

We would highly recommend you to take this tour, it’s run by a lovely husband and wife Team that give you a really personalised service, get captain Jordan talking and he has great family stories from the area, his wife Mariah is lovely and meets you at port, transports you to the boat and cooks you lovely home made muffins (Cooked with hand picked blueberry’s) and you get a up close view of whales but we had a awesome time. It’s a smaller boat only up to 6 passages ( but has indoor and out door viewing areas) and hence easier viewing and a more mobile boat. Also you are supporting a small local business more reasons to use them!!

Whale watching in a smaller boat like this is so worth it. First of all we were with an experienced captain who grew up in Hoonah and knew exactly where to go to see the Whales. Secondly, there were others who booked from their cruise ships in larger boats with at least 50 people on board who couldn’t even get to the rail to see the whales. They were in the boats right next to us and we were able to get great photos with no one in our way. Jordan and Mariah are a young couple who run the business and do an excellent job. We saw at least 15 whales, some dolphins and yes a bear or two on the land! The 3 hours went by so fast. There is a bathroom on the boat ... which is important. Mariah made her famous blueberry muffins and hot chocolate for everyone. If you are going to stop at Icy Strait Point (Hoonah, AK), and would like to do a whale watching tour..look them up. Mariah picks you up rift by the ship.

This was by far the best whale watching trip I have ever been on! I highly recommend Hoonah Whale Tours! Very professional from booking to the actual whale watching boat trip. The small size group really allows each person to feel they get every opportunity to see the whales and take fantastic pictures. They go out of their way to make your trip an exceptional experience!
