This was on my bucket list for a long time, but wow. I had the most incredible, humbling, profound, spiritual, incredible experience watching the sunset and then the stars and the moon. Mitch and James were incredible guides -- making it educational, fun and just joyous. Whether you go with friends, loved ones or on your own, this is a MUST DO during your time on the Big Island and getting the photos the next morning was a HUGE gift (and not all the tours do that so that makes this one extra special!) MAHALO TO MITCH AND JAMES!

I highly recommend this trip. The night we went there was a full moon. I thought would interfere with our stargazing but I checked with the tour operator they assured me that it would not because the moon would not be rising until 10 pm. The guides were terrific explaining everything about the Huge Country telescopes at the top of the mountain, the sacred Hawaiian burial grounds and plans for the Country telescopes future - additions and removals. The trip is totally dependent upon the weather and were extremely lucky. Really enjoyed the sunset views. We could actually see the reflection on the water usually the clouds below cover that. Also we could see Maui and Haleakala which was so cool. It was very WINDY and some of the jacket zippers weren't working brrrrrr! After the sunset we went to another location - by this time it was totally dark. We got out of the vans and were given a tour of the stars and Milky Way above us, visible in August. We got a tour using the current astronomy names and then a tour of the Hawaiian traditional names. The siting was amazing - we looked through the telescopes at new stars growing and old stars dying.

Standing atop Mauna Kea was the most incredible adventure of my life so far--and that's hard to say!!! Imagine feeling small beside the ocean—now magnify that by infinity. Watching a 360-degree sunset, witnessing the Milky Way move as the Earth spun beneath us, and knowing this is the highest mountain on the planet… truly incredible! The Hawaiians believe this sacred place is home to the gods, and I can see why. It’s a reminder of how small we are, "dust in the wind"!!!Truly unforgettable. If u have the opportunity to do the tour—I highly recommend it—incredible
