My husband and I did the 5-mile roundtrip canoe trip with our fantastic guide Mike and eight others on 9/1/24. First off, the tour company swiftly corrected my booking error when I realized our cruise ship did not dock until noon, seamlessly switching us from the morning tour to the afternoon tour. We easily found our guide who drove us all to the shore of the lake, providing area information along the way. Once all were outfitted (the tour company provides everything--even individual waters and snacks), we shoved off for the glacier and Mike told family-friendly (and funny) jokes along the paddle, as well as info on geology and Alaskan history. He gave us plenty of breaks to marvel at the glacier and the nearby waterfalls. Mike delighted in the fact that the glacier had calved the previous evening and there were now icebergs all around us (apparently pretty rare). No catastrophic capsizing occurred, a testament to Mike's proficiency in instructing we cheechakos. Upon our return to shore, Mike made us all hot beverages, many different options to choose from. We usually do self-guided tours, but Mike made it a pleasure to be stuck in a boat with 9 others, several of whom paddled only sporadically, lol. Mike's mom, I hope you're reading this--your son is one heckuva guide!
