Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE a hike.

Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

If you want a different way to see the glacier up close and personal, this tour is for you. After being picked up from the cruise port it was a short drive to the Lake where we suited up and headed out! It’s a fairly easy 2.5 mile paddle each way with plenty of stops for breaks. Sophie, our tour guide, was fantastic! She gave us lots of information on the glacier as well as insight into what it’s like living in Juneau. She was really hilarious and kept us entertained the entire time. Snacks and hot drinks were provided which was a nice touch. I cannot recommend this tour enough! We all had a blast.

They were flexible- the morning of our trip I called to switch our meeting location to the beach at Mendenhall Lake - no problem. They were organized- waterproof clothing (boots, pants, jackets, gloves) all quickly distributed by size needed. Each person had a waterproof stuff bag for personal items. Molly was entertaining as she went through our safety briefing. And, she was educational as she guided us across the lake by Nugget Falls and to the face of the glacier and back. Molly won’t challenge you, but our canoe of 8 paddlers plus guide reached speeds of 6.1 knots! ( we had glass smooth water and no wind) see if you can😀

The trip was amazing and our guy is Molly was great. Full of energy and great information. The trip is a little strenuous but worth it to get up close
