Although this tour was not what I expected, we all found it interesting. The tour starts outside, where we found out some fascinating New York city history. The highlight was entering the basilica (not technically a cathedral, you'll find out why on the tour!). It's stunning inside, with high ,soaring ceilings. The actual catacombs were disappointing. I guess I was expecting very old, spooky, dimly lit stone walls, endlessly disappearing into the darkness. It's not like that. The lighting is low, and you are given a battery operated tea candle, but it's a bit sterile looking. The great NYC history info makes the tour worthwhile.
