Our trips depart from Mission Bay, which requires only a short 10 minute journey access to the open ocean where whales and dolphins can be seen! The search for whales and other animals begins as soon as you depart the dock and our marine biologists are on the microphone explaining exactly what to expect and what you are seeing from the get go!
Typically our trips are 2.5-3 hours in length, but time can vary based on seasons and locations of sightings.

This is my third time coming here for whale watching. I live here in San Diego and I've been to a few other places. This facility by far is the best!!!! It's small, personable and just all around great! The crew on the boat interacts with you and asks you at the end of your trip how your experience was and they all seemed very knowable in answering everyone's questions. The best part is when we have seen activity, they get just as excited as the passengers. Their love of the ocean and sea life shows. They explain why they can only go to a certain distance and why they have to keep their distance from sea life. Their prices are very reasonable as well. This is actually something I will even do on my own instead of waiting for out of town company to arrive. Keep up the good work!!!!!

I've had the opportunity to go whale watching with this company many times. The Privateer is a big boat that holds over 100 people. The crew is always friendly and helpful. There is always something to see off the coast of San Diego. In winter, there is the gray whale migration. In the late spring, the blue whales begin to show up and stay through October. There is always the chance of seeing other whales such as fin whales, humpbacks, and minke whales. Just about every trip, no matter what time of year, there is an excellent chance of seeing dolphins. Mostly common dolphins, but occasionally bottlenose and Risso's. I've been whale watching all over the world. I really enjoy this company.

It's been a life long dream of mine to come whale watching and this trip certainly did not disappoint! We spend 3 hours on Friday 22nd of April out to sea and we were lucky enough to see gray whales, lots of common dolphins, a bottlenosed dolphin, a fin whale and some sealions. The boat was more than big enough for everybody to get to see the wildlife and the staff were lovely - really enthusiastic and knowledgeable. A trip I will never forget.
