I took the tour from Phoenix, Arizona. Driver picked me up promptly at the scheduled time from my hotel. The bus was clean, with large glass windows for viewing the surrounding landscapes. The driver pushed a little for tour participants to purchase an additional (optional) helicopter tour at the Grand Canyon. We stopped briefly at Williams, off the famous Route 66. The driver, Nate, was knowledgable on facts about Arizona, flora and fauna and even “supernatural” folklore of the area. He was quite chatty and engaged the passengers in conversation. The only thing I would say is that I did find the narrative to be quite one-sided, I suppose to cater to the clientele. What I mean by that, was though there was some talk about Native American culture and history, I felt the narrative was quite outdated. I personally would have liked to get more about the original, indigenous owners of the land. But, given the personalities of the other people on the tour, I totally understand that might not fly with them. It took quite a long time to get to the Grand Canyon. I got picked up at 6:15am but we arrived in the park at 12:30pm. There was about 3h that could be spent enjoying the splendour of the canyon. It was really majestic and such wondrous sight. I felt quite sad, though, that this sacred land is the site of so many displaced peoples, only to make way for obnoxious tourists with selfie sticks. Of course, nothing to do with the tour. The journey back to Phoenix took 4h. My back was pretty sore from sitting for so long on the bus. My flight to Phoenix wasn’t even that long. Overall, the tour was good quality, reasonably priced and enjoyable. If given the chance, I would much prefer to take my time to explore the surrounding areas on my own with a rental car. If that’s not an option, then the tour is a good Plan B.
