Route 66
After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.
2
Williams Depot
Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.
3
Grand Canyon South Rim
You’ll experience approx. three hours within the National Park marveling at the beauty that is the Grand Canyon. Visit the historic El Tovar Lodge, Hopi House, Mather Point or Yavapai Point, the Geology Museum and more incredible viewpoints!

The small-group Grand Canyon day trip was well worth it. Montana was our friendly and most knowledgeable tour guide. The door-to-door service at each hotel was very convenient and he kept us all on schedule. Montana broke up the long drive there with fun facts about Arizona and the Grand Canyon along the way, he told funny stories and shared a few classic (even some corny) jokes which were all good and passed the time nicely. The drive to and from was very scenic. Beautiful terrain of red rocks, lots of cactus and even pretty pine trees the more north we drove. The pitstop at Williams to visit the historic Route 66 was a nice bonus. Once we reached the Grand Canyon and entered the park, we were greeted with a breathtaking first view of the Grand Canyon at our first stop. We made a couple of other stops along the south rim and were able to spend over 2hrs on our own time to explore the Grand Canyon, hike the trails, visit the museum and gift shops, eat and take plenty of pictures. It's definitely a day trip worth taking and highly recommend! Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing, don't get too close to the edge of the canyon and watch out for the squirrels at the park when eating, they are aggressive!

Hi! Let us begin by expressing our extreme thanks for reaching out on TripAdvisor with your experience with DETOURS. We love hearing from our guests after their tour! Anybody is lucky to catch a ride with Montana, one of our most senior guides here at DETOURS. As corny as they are we wouldn't trade Montana's jokes for anything! It's always a good feeling knowing that we can bring even just one person to experience the Grand Canyon - thankfully, we can seat up to many more than just one person! We will make sure to warn people about those pesky squirrels as well. Anywho, take care and we hope to see you again soon!

We live in Arizona, but didn't look forward to driving up to the Grand Canyon... We wanted to be able to sit back and relax there and back. The Grand Canyon day trip was the perfect choice! We were greeted at a local hotel bright and early and right on time by our guide, Sam. He asked us and the other passengers what our interests were and what we hoped to see and do on our trip so he could tailor his discussion points and stops to things we would enjoy. He was very conscientious of our time as well as avoiding possible triggers, such religious and political discussions. He found ways to discuss a wide variety of topics so that everyone was interested. Having lived and worked at the canyon, he knew a TON about it and shared lots of stories and information. He suggested additional stops that he thought we would enjoy, but was sure to ask if everyone was okay with them because they were going to impact the time we would return to Phoenix. We highly recommend Sam as a guide... be sure to ask for him, you won't regret it! As for the bus... super comfortable seats! We sat near the front and got a little chilly on the way back (the temperature was very comfortable on the way up there), but the back seat passengers got a little warm, so choose your seats based on your personal temperature preferences. Sam tried to accommodate everyone, but there's only so much cool air (on a VERY HOT day) that the bus can pump out. We will definitely consider another trip with Detours!

Hi there! May we just say... wow! Thank you for the outstanding review, we cannot express our gratitude enough for your words. One of the best options, if you don’t like to drive up yourself, is to get someone else to do it for you, and sounds like you called the right people to do it. The entire DETOURS team here is dedicated to making sure you don’t have to lift a finger. We truly do hope to see you out on the road again, there's plenty of Southwest to explore!
