The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.

John, Tour Guide from DETOURS of Arizona certainly delivered a great experience. We were picked early in the morning around 06:00 AM from the Arizona Biltmore and a few other clients from other hotels nearby. As he began to drive and head to the Grand Canyon (around a four hour trip), he disseminated a lot of historical knowledge from the area. As you head out of Phoenix, you begin to see the different environments and it is quite breathtaking. John made several stops prior to arrival and made sure that we were able to enjoy and get some snacks as well before our final destination. As soon as we got to the Grand Canyon, he made sure to warn us about the most dangerous animal in the Grand Canyon, being careful in walking away from the edge, and different tragedies that have occurred in this place. Once you are in the park, you realize that the people that do or have had to deal with these terrible incidents are people that get extremely close to the edge and do not have common sense. There were tons of teenagers trying to get a picture from the edge of many trails and could have lost their lives easily for a simple selfie or picture. Use common sense and you should be fine in the Grand Canyon. The experience is priceless and certainly worth once in a lifetime. As we headed back, we encountered a bit of rain during the month of August and John drove like Speed Racer to our destination. I did not mind his driving to be honest, but some other clients were a bit intimidated and hesitant as he came close to certain cars. Other than such fact, it was certainly worth it and would consider this company again in the near future for this and other destinations that they serve.

From our tour guides to our reservation staff, we see that you are in the best hands for a very comfortable and interesting day. In regards to the guide driving speeds, we actually have GPS trackers in every vehicle to ensure that they do not go over the speed limits - sometimes what may seem like a very fast-paced speed racer is actually just someone going about the speed limit. Typically guests do not mind staying within that but we are no strangers to those who do get a little uncomfortable even if we are staying within the legal limit. We appreciate the feedback and we do hope to see you again very soon!

We were staying in Tempe and wanted to do a day tour to the Canyon. Hence the tour schedule was perfect especially as there was direct Hotel pickup and drop-off. Our tour guide/Driver Dan made the trip comfortable and informative. It’s highly recommended that travellers do the helicopter ride of the Canyon to appreciate the full extent of its beauty.

My mom and I went on this tour with Sam as our guide. Thank you Sam for a great last experience in Arizona. Sam is very friendly and knowledgeable of the area and especially of the Grand Canyon. When we arrived and he brought us to the Canyon views it was breath taking. We visited other views of the Canyon from other view points near and it did not disappoint. We had a few stops along the way as well for bathroom breaks which was great to stretch out. Through out the route Sam shared great history of Arizona and funny jokes that made the trip even more enjoyable. Thank you Sam for a great experience. We hope to get to join one of these tours in the future and recommended to others that visit Arizona.
