The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.

Although the weather was not cooperative and we did not get to see the canyon, we were impressed by the knowledge of the driver, Steve. My reason for not giving this an excellent rating is because of the policy of the Detours to not allow substitution of personnel. We were an out of town group and three of our members got sick and wanted to give their prepaid seat to another person. Leslie said that we could not do so unless our sub went to another location, 13 miles away, to get on another tour. We had two thirteen passenger vehicles and only 15 members went leaving 11 seats unfilled. This was wrong. Vouchers for future trips is not an acceptable response. So, when out of town guests request a change in personnel it should be no problem for the company to comply. I have requested a call from the owner but have gotten zero response.

Tour first stopped in the city of Williams. We only got to spend 45 minutes there. Not long enough. We next went to Grand Canyon. On the way, the tour guide gave us a lot of information. He was very knowledgeable. I learned a lot. We had three different stops at the Canyon. Very awesome views. First stop we spent about 90 min. Second stop 45 min. Third stop an hour. I am rating this tour average because of the way the driver drove. To and from the canyon, he drove TOO FAST. Especially on the way home. I could not relax for fear of being in an accident. Tour Guide's name was Andy. Would recommend the tour, but with a different Tour Guide.

Hello and thank you for your feedback. Upon reviewing our driver GPS logs, we were not able to see any evidence of speeding. We have, however, spoken with our guide and reiterated the importance of driving the vehicle more smoothly to ensure our guests' comfort. Safety and guest comfort are our number one and two priorities. In regards to the stop in Williams, we love giving guests a chance to quickly experience the town, however, the South Rim is the main focus of our Grand Canyon tour. Our feedback over the years has indicated guests prefer more time on the rim, rather than spending too much time in Williams. Thank you again for your feedback and have a nice day.

This was the first trip to the Grand Canyon for both myself and my traveling companion. Mr Justin is the best tour guide- he is very knowledgeable about the region and he will stop at the best places for amazing pictures. Get the box lunch on the ride- you won't have enough time on the 2 stops for a sit-down lunch. I would highly recommend this trip as well as our tour guide- you won't be disappointed.
