The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.

Usually take tour from Sedona but took day tour with adult grandson from Phoenix. Very knowledgeable and gracious driver. Enjoyed narrative on variety of AZ topics on way to canyon. Spacious, comfortable van and plenty of time to view this magnificent landmark from several lookouts. Probably will consider other tours from Phoenix with this outfit. Beats driving!

My sister and I planned a last minute trip to Phoenix. Fortunately, there was space available for us to go on this Grand Canyon tour. Grand is an understatement! The Grand Canyon is truly awe-inspiring. Justin was an incredible tour guide. He was entertaining, knowledgeable, and fun. We’re so glad we had this experience, especially since, coincidentally, it was Earth Day! When I called a day prior to the tour I was advised to wear closed-toe shoes and that there was a chance of rain. This let me know they really cared that we have a great experience.

Our tour guide was knowledgable but a little too chatty on the way from Phoenix to the South Rim. Some people may enjoy non-stop chatter for four hours, but I found it hard to relax and take in the scenery. Our van was absolutely horrible, like sitting in the back of a school bus all day. Every bump in the road (and there were A LOT of them) made you bounce up and down. The seats weren't as wide as my coach seat on an Airbus 320, and were squeaky as well. The lunch was okay but overpriced, and is not included in the tour price anymore. Overall, if you don't mind no frills it's fine, but you get what you pay for and next time I'll upgrade a bit.

And, by and large, previous Guests have provided us thousands of accolades telling us they appreciate learning about our beautiful state and especially the Grand Canyon, while out on tour. Furthermore, we train our guides to balance their level of interaction during the drive, with the level of interaction which they are receiving back from the Guests, while on the tour. We hope this helps to clarify. Additionally, regarding your vehicle, all of us at DETOURS always look for opportunities to making adjustments to enhance our customers experience. We regularly put our vehicles through a rigorous maintenance program, and we're replacing this van's shocks, at the time of this writing. Finally, with regards to the lunch add-on which you purchased, here again, we always get such great feedback as to how much our Guests enjoy the lunch. Not only is it priced lower than what one would pay, for less food in the Grand Canyon, our Guests also appreciate the time this option saves them because they don't have to stand in line...which leaves them more time to explore and take in the amazing views.
