After departing the Phoenix metro area, our tour travels through the expansive Sonoran Desert filled with the native saguaro cactus. The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.

We loved our day trip to the south rim from Scottsdale. The tour guide/driver (Dan Cotton) was clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. He gave a excellent and comprehensive overview of the history of the area as we drove through. We would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience the Grand Canyon! Tip: would have purchased lunch through Detours as there were not many lunch options in the Grand Canyon itself and they were all ++ busy on the day we arrived.

Our first time there. Couldn’t have been a better trip. Jon was terrific. Prompt pickup from our hotel, learned so much on our way up. Tombstone sounds like a great trip another time. Jon did a great job of getting us to the right places before the crowds took over. I really appreciated that at each stop he would point things out tell us where things were and then let us explore on our own. So much better than sticking together in a big group the whole time. Having someone drive you there was a pleasure. Save all the energy for the spectacular beauty of the Grand Canyon. Highly recommend this tour and Jon.
