The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.

Williams will be our first stop along the tour for a chance to experience Route 66, the iconic American highway steeped in rich tradition. While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.

The Grand Canyon is awesome in the true meaning of that word. The tour is designed to maximize time at the Canyon. Stops at schlocky stores are kept to a minimum. Our guide was extremely informative (even though he has been doing this tour for only 2 months) and very personable. The van was comfortable and the box lunch they provided was unusually good for such tours. This is the company and guide to go with if you are doing Grand Canyon in a day

Our day trip to the Grand Canyon using Detours tour group was fantastic. First off, I loved that we were not on a huge bus, but rather a small van that accommodated 12 people. The seats were comfortable and it was a friendly atmosphere/environment. We filled out forms as to what we all wanted for lunch -- choices were sandwiches, salads, etc. We made several stops along the way to the Grand Canyon. The first one was just a stop to use the restroom and stretch our legs. The second stop was in Williams, Arizona, which was the last stop in Arizona for the old Route 66. We spend approximately one hour at this stop and I loved it. It was a small, quaint town with cute shops and restaurants. I could have spent all day there. When we got back in the van, our driver/tour guide had our lunches all ready. The sandwiches were delicious and came with a drink, chips and an apple. This was also included in the price of the tour. A few hours later, we arrived at the Grand Canyon. Our tour guide took us to several different spots to see the Canyon from different view. It was magnificent! He then brought us to one spot where there was a geology museum, hotel and several shops. We stayed at that location for about 2 hours. He brought us into the museum and gave an in depth talk about the Grand Canyon, with facts, figures, etc. that it would be hard to find out on your own if you were not on a tour. Overall, the tour was fabulous. Our guide talked the entire time on our way to the Canyon and gave us such a wealth of information. He was great! On the way home, he showed two different movies on the Grand Canyon, although most people on the van were sleeping. It was an exhausting, fun-filled, once in a lifetime experience for me and those in my group. I would definitely recommend a Detours tour to anyone considering a trip to the Grand Canyon! Well worth the money and time. Just fantastic!

Grand Canyon leaves you speechless. It takes your breath away. The guide, Jon, was fantastic. He told us a lot about history, geography, geology of the visited places and about local ecosystem. This trip is a good choice when you have only one free day.
