The scenery begins to change as we increase in elevation and views of the cactus fade into pine trees. As we continue further into Northern Arizona, we will travel the outskirts of the Route 66 town of Flagstaff and from the highway, see the San Francisco Peaks among the seemingly endless Ponderosa Pine Forest, the largest contiguous forest of ponderosa pines in the world.

While in Williams, guests will have the opportunity to “get their kicks on Route 66” with walks along the original route, explore the local shops and capture souvenir photos highlighting a bygone era in classic American history. Also known as the Will Rodgers Highway, Route 66 is the most recognizable road in the United States and stretched 2,448 miles from Chicago to California upon completion.

Thanks Dan for a wonderful day! What a great tour guide, informative, a careful driver, and topped off with terrible jokes!! :) The Grand Canyone is beyond words, and Dan and his telescope gave us the best tour for the time we were there. Our first visit to Arizona and Phoenix, and how stunning! I look forward to keeping it on my list for future visits, and will definately book future tours through Detours.

We had an amazing fulfilling day full of valuable knowledge, and beautiful views. This created great memories that will never leave us! We took a tour to Sedona and the Grand Canyon on Tuesday, after our original tour was canceled due to bad weather. Our tour guide was dynamite! We drove through the scenic Sonoran Desert to Sedona. The landscape was stunning, the rock formation of Arizonas red rock country were simply amazing. The formation of sandstone and limestone, deposited at the bottom of an inland sea hundreds of millions of years ago and the presence of hematite or iron-oxide which rusts and stains the surrounding sandstone a red color. Who would have thought?

In downtown Sedona we had time to check out the shops, galleries and restaurants, which just opened and watched candlemaking. The candles are dipped at least 50 times. Then we drove to all the famous must have picture stops to show, we were there. Our tour guide knew the perfect spots -- great!

Our van climbed up to 6,000 feet before we reached our first stopping point in Grand Canyon National Park. We drove along the rim of the Grand Canyon, the South Rim, the crown jewel of our trip. We had our picnic lunch at the look out point, soaked up more scenery and learned about the Grand Canyons natural history and visited the Hopi house. Dynamite! Stunning views! It was the best thing ever.
