Destrehan Plantation
1pm Departure Only - 5 1/2 hour tour Established in 1787, Destrehan is the oldest documented plantation home in the lower Mississippi Valley. It is also the closest to New Orleans. Built by Free Person Of Color Charles Pacquet, she has survived colonial and civil wars, occupation by the Union Army, abandonment, decay and restoration, and has now been preserved in all its glory for you to enjoy. A short drive away from the grand River Road, you'll experience another another side of Louisiana culture in the Manchac Swamp. This was a wonderful tour! Kate and Donald did such a good job. We really liked that the tour had two distinct parts. We really enjoyed both!

By far exceeded our expectations!!! Our tour guide Bob and the Driver Micheal were AMAZING!!!! So much knowledge of the city!! The plantation was beautiful!! And the drive was long but oh so fun!! Plan to be out for a day! Take bug spray and pack your sunnies! But if you don’t have some, the gift shop will have some! The Swamp tour was incredibly fun! Brandon was amazing!!! We got lucky and held a baby alligator! Brandon fed alligators and wild pigs! FUNNN!!! A must if you’re visiting!!!

This was a very enjoyable day! Kate was our tour guide and Traynice was our driver. They were both very knowledgeable and friendly from beginning to end! On the bus ride from New Orleans to Oak Alley Kate told us about the historical land marks we passed and told us about each of the plantations as we went along. The plantation tour was neat. They have done a great job preserving the history. I do wish we had a little more time here. We chose to grab a sandwich from the Cafe, it was delicious, but had to skip the sugar cane exhibit so we didn't miss the bus to the swamp tour. Captain Danny was our captain for the swamp boat tour and he was very knowledgeable and aware of everyone's safety! We saw lots of gators, wild boar, birds, and turtles. We held a baby gator, saw some old cemeteries and even saw a croc! Once back on the bus Kate played us some traditional cajun/creole music and told us more of the history of New Orleans!
