Mike was our tour guide, super awesome, fun, and knowledgeable. Definitely will be going back! It’s our annual thing every year and defleinty will keep it up!

This was the 3rd Chicago Segway tour (I take my kids to Chicago one by one and they love Segways). This was the first time with this outfit and it was good tour-wise, but not good for safety (at least for this tour guide). Our group was me and two 12 year olds plus a family of 5 with older children (in 20’s). We learned how to ride with a brief visual and then each taking about 1-2 min turns on a Segway in a small indoor space (smaller than my living room). Then we got our Segways (which needed some maintenance! Some looked so beaten up, it was not a confidence builder) and tooled around in the truck-laden alley for about 5 minutes. (The other outfitter had a huge warehouse where we practiced for about 15-20 minutes) The actual tour was good. Rachel told us some interesting points and facts about Chicago. ****What was disturbing was her lack of safety and concern.****** She would lead the 8 of us without looking back to see if we were all together. At the very first crosswalk about 2 blocks into the tour, 2 of us didn’t make the light and she didn’t notice until they were almost out of sight. She came back for us but we had already made the next light and we’re meeting up. She continued to lead us going very fast, causing us to spread out in a very long line bc some people were not as comfortable on them and wouldn’t/couldn’t go as fast. Towards the end of the tour, it was my girls and I trying to keep up behind her, but the whole other family was nowhere to be seen (she never looked back to see if she had everyone...only counted heads when were making a stop). She left the 3 of us and went back to find them. Apparently, one of the guys had CRASHED at least 1/4 mile back (I couldn’t see them down the street). The guy’s whole side was scraped and dirty and his toe was all chewed up (he was wearing flip flops). His brother also got scraped up bc he was in front of the brother that crashed). We started back and Rachel crossed a bike path to the crosswalk waiting area, so others followed. I saw some bike racers (going super fast) on the path coming at us and my 12 yo daughter was approaching the bike path. I yelled at her to stop and luckily she did right before the bikers almost crashed into her! This could have been VERY bad! But Rachel was not watching out for her people. She was literally about 10 ft away just waiting at the crosswalk. There was no reason she couldn’t be watching out for us to be sure all were safe. And this was RIGHT AFTER the family had caught up with us after the crash! You would think she would have been even more careful! She continued to go too fast and left the family behind a few more times after that. I would lag behind so that the other family would know where we turned (she was so far ahead and out of their sight) In my opinion, none of your group should be out of sight for very long. Our group of 8 would span a length of a couple of blocks sometimes. Not right. I’m guessing she is not a mom or used to watching over people. She was funny and nice, but as a Segway guide, you cannot just whiz your way around town without constantly checking on people and keeping them together. I felt like I was always trying to keep up with her (and it seemed her speed governor was set higher than some of ours so it was impossible to go as fast as her). We saw another group from the same outfit along the way. He had his group all in a line, close together and controlled. In retrospect, we should have asked her to slow down but she should also know not to leave people behind. We still tipped her well bc we got a great rate on Groupon and they did a good job rescheduling us around the rain. Not sure I would go back to this place, especially with kids (I thank God my daughter and her friend were not hurt!)...maybe with a diff guide.

We had a fantastic day riding the segways around Chicago! The staff was friendly and easygoing, but they made sure everyone was trained and comfortable enough to start riding. We went on paths we'd never been on before as we toured around to various landmarks in the city. It was refreshing and exciting! We took minimal stops for photos, and even a break at food stop on the lake. The best part is that our guide was willing to do what WE wanted, so we could stop for as long or short as we'd like. She even gave us more time than allotted, just so we could hang around at Buckingham Fountain at noon to watch it shoot super high! Such a great family experience! My teens loved it and want to go again.
