Monterey Bay is the premier destination for whale watching all year. Your daily 3-hour, whale watch trip is narrated by a marine biologist or naturalist who provides educational and interesting information about whales, dolphins, and a wide variety of marine wildlife. In addition to teaching you about the wildlife, your marine biologists and naturalists will provide information about the natural history of the local area and talk about conservation.

For unusual circumstances, my experience was not memorable. Our trip was in the afternoon. The weather was overcast, cold, and windy. The water was choppy. The boat was relatively small. It took over an hour to reach somewhere in the Ocean where the captain spotted some Whale's activity. By that time my poor stomach was screaming for help. By the time the captain spotted a Whale far away, we all gathered on that side of the boat, and I was trying desperately planting my feet on the boat deck, securing myself against the boat railings while the boat swaying in different directions, raising my hands with my camera to take a picture, the Whale was gone. On the top of that I felt so bad due to stomach sickness. The return trip was also challenging. It was so cold, wet, and choppy you did not dare to move. I was so glad to get out of the boat.

Booked this trip for family. Enjoyable experience. Smaller boat so less people, and the people who work at Discovery seem to really care that you have a good experience (specifically, that you see actual whales). Only drawback is that it is a smaller boat, so it can get rocky if one gets seasick. Overall, enjoyable experience.

We had a fantastic time on our first whale watching trip. The guys were very informative and did everything they could to make sure we saw whales. We were only able to see the Gray Whales and a huge pod of Risso Dolphins, but these mammals alone were worth the trip.
