During our honeymoon, we had hoped to spend the day hiking around Cumberland Island and then later on doing a sunset kayak tour. Due to damages related to Hurricane Matthew, the ferry wasn't running so we opted for the kayak tour to Cumberland Island. I am so glad we did this. It was high tide so we were able to get very close to the island itself which meant we got very close to the wild horses. On the trek over and on the trek back, dolphins were splashing around within feet of our kayak. I got a very quick glimpse of a manatee which was so exciting. Tom, our tour guide, was awesome. He gave us a lot of information about the area, stayed with us, and constantly checked in to make sure we were doing alright.
I've kayaked only one other time- and it was on a lake, no waves, no current, etc. My husband and I opted for the tandem kayak as he has much more experience than I do. As a new kayaker and a fairly in shape person, this wasn't an easy breezy tour. We put in some effort to get over to the island and back again. However, let me be very clearly, it was worth it!
I highly recommend this tour and this company. On my next visit to the area, we are doing the sunset tour. We've already put Tom on notice that he has not seen the last of us!
