This diversity is perhaps best represented through Flushing’s stellar food scene. On this walk through the neighborhood, we’ll explore the area’s almost mind-blowing culinary diversity while also learning about Flushing’s fascinating history. We’ll visit vendors, the outdoor stands of local restaurants and some of Flushing’s mall-based food courts – considered by locals to have some of the area’s best eats – tasting delicacies from China, Korea, Vietnam and other countries. From stalls selling Hong Kong-style dim sum and snacks to bakeries turning out the Korean take on French pastries and a visit to a local kimchi maker, we’ll dive deep into the best that the neighborhood has to offer. On our Flushing food tour, we’ll take a look at some of area’s unique cultural markers, from a storefront Daoist temple to the Flushing Quaker Meeting House, built in 1694 – a testament to the important role the area, originally a Dutch settlement, has played in the history of New York.

I always wanted to explore the amazing Chinatown in Queens, but its sheer size and variety made it intimidating for this out-of-town visitor. However, visiting it with Sierra from Culinary Backstreets made it fun and stress-free. My college-aged son and I made a weekend trip to NYC to explore the diversity of cuisines and cultures in Queens and were not disappointed. Sierra not only brought us to carefully curated places to eat, but chose dishes that showed the different regions and waves of Asian immigrants that settled in the area. Learning about the history of Flushing and its changing population was a great addition to the wonderful food. As to the food, not only was it delicious, but there was plenty of it- you will NOT walk away hungry! Fortunately, there is enough walking between bites to digest a bit, but you'll want to pace yourself. A fabulous introduction to the Flushing Chinatown in Queens.

Esneider was a fantastic host in bustling Flushing, NY, for an insider’s taste of Asian food and markets. We sampled a wide variety of dishes, all fresh and unique, including some we would never have tried without this tour. We enjoyed each food stall and small eatery as they each offered a different vibe and speciality. The markets captured our sense of adventure with their live fish and frogs, exotic fruits, and aisles full of unique offerings. Walking between tastings, Esneider noted historical locations and surprising facts about the area. Highly recommend!

Such a great tour of a fascinating area of New York. Our guide Sierra emphasized not only the food, but the historical significance of Flushing. They were extremely knowledgeable and very careful to take requests and interests into account. The food was absolutely amazing-I really feel like we tried the best of the best. I really liked touring the market. As a person who lives in NY, I feel like I can confidently eat and shop in Flushing, which was previously overwhelming to me! Thanks!
