On a girls get-a-way, a dear friend treated me to the Carmel Food Tour, and what a treat it was. I knew it was going to be special from the get go because of the energy, humor and knowledge our guide Migdahlia put out in just her introduction. She let us know that we would be eating, drinking and learning a bit about Carmel as we meandered through the city. Our first stop was Anton & Michel for a delicious taste (more than a taste, all the places we stopped were very generous) of short ribs on Polenta with a glass of delicious wine. From there, Mig took us to Carmel Honey Company, and what a surprise that was. I'm not a big honey lover, but the creative tastes of different flavored honeys on cheeses, fruits and crackers made me sit up and take notice. Bought two kinds of honey, can't wait to shake up my appetizer choices. We had great pulled pork sandwiches at 400 degrees, olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting at Trio Carmel, incredible Ziti Bolognese at La Balena, Tiramisu at Cantinetta Luca, and mouthwatering chocolates at Lula's. And along the way, Mig gave us bits of history, funny stories, and other restaurant recommendations, all the while leading us through hidden walkways and courtyards that made it all magical. To top is off, we also received a discount on our purchases at these places, which I happily took full advantage of. So from now on, when we come to Carmel, this food tour will definitely be on my list of must do's.
