The building itself is iconic and the views were spectacular. However, not one member of staff was friendly or polite. Which took the shine off the visit. We asked the guy on the desk on entry some questions and he was terse and clearly couldn’t wait to get rid of us. We also asked another guy to take a photo of us and he refused. We also came back for the nighttime visit and it was so disorganised. We told them we were here for a second visit and they told us to go to the back of a very long queue whilst they let first timers in. Then literally 2 minutes later, a guy walked the queue asking for second timers and told us to go in. In my view America is synonymous with excellent customer service. But these lot didn’t get the memo. They’d all benefit from some customer service training.

We had tickets for 7.30pm. The museum before you go up is interesting and really builds the anticipation of what is to come. Up we went just before sunset and the views are amazing and i think the fact that the viewing area is outside adds to the experience. Unfortunately it was so crowded, that it was difficult to get a spot to view or take photos. When we wanted to leave, the queue for the elevator went all the way to the outdoor area. We were told there was a 45 minute wait for an elevator, so they opened up the staircase and so we walked down from the 86th floor to the 80th where we could get the elevator back down to the ground floor. The over-crowding did ruin the night for us as we felt we were herded around like cattle. Would i recommend a visit to Empire State Building? Absolutely, how you could you not go? Its iconic New York. But i would not recommend going at that twilight/night time. It seems to me that they are selling as many of these higher priced tickets as possible and not providing a safe and enjoyable experience to its visitors.
