This is an important tour for anyone who wants to begin to understand the often overlooked contributions and sacrifices of so many generations of Black people who built Charleston into the dazzling city it is today. Packed with information conveyed in an engaging way by Franklin Williams, a tour guide whose passion and knowledge are clear throughout. Our tour group was diverse, too, which was a welcome change in a city that is astonishingly white downtown. Highlights - Williams’ stories of the lives of Black residents, artisans and business leaders. Denmark Vesey house, slave auction blocks on neighborhood streets, Mother Emanuel AME Church, Simmons gate and more. Highly recommend.
