On this breathtaking Safari you'll take a 60 minute boat ride out to the Davidson Glacier filled with the potential for wildlife including whales, bald eagles, sea lions, and mountain goats! Once docked, you'll take a short hike (1/4 mile) to our canoes and then you'll make your way out to the glacier itself! Prepare yourself to take in the sheer immensity and majesty of the Davidson Glacier. You can't have any experience like this anywhere else.

On this spellbinding wilderness expedition, you will travel through fjords and rain forests viewing some of the most spectacular Alaskan scenery in Southeast. You’ll see everything from wildflowers to towering mountains and top off the experience with up-close views of the Davidson Glacier. Your adventure begins aboard one of our boats custom-designed to provide an intimate viewing experience. During your 75-minute journey through North America’s deepest fjord, keep a lookout for whales, seals, and cascading waterfalls while your Naturalist guide tells you more about the area you are traveling through. Upon arrival at the remote Glacier Point beach, you will take a short, adventurous drive across the forested glacial moraines to our base camp where you will gear up in rubber boots and a life jacket. After a ¼ mile walk, the forest opens to reveal a breathtaking view of the Davidson Glacier and pristine lake below. Here you will board a 31-foot voyager canoe for a trip around the lake to view the glacier and enjoy the incredible Alaskan wilderness while your guide shares his extensive knowledge of the area. Conditions permitting, you’ll make a stop on the delta to get up close and personal with the glacier. This is an optional 1/2 to 1-mile hike over a sand and pebble beach. After returning to the base camp, enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach before your return trip on the custom designed wildlife-viewing boat .

Our group of 6 ventured out and enjoyed everything. The boat ride was the best, and they stop a couple times along the way for waterfalls and photo ops. Once we arrived on land, we were given a bag lunch (sandwich, peanuts, and water). We took it with us for the canoe ride out to the Davidson Glacier. The canoes are big (for 11-13) and have a motor. You don't really have to paddle, but you do get suited up for it. I was hoping for more legitimate canoeing, but it was fine. Once at the glacier, we could walk around, but we were not actually on the glacier. We were close, though! We had a great day. There are appropriately placed toilets along the way, but be ready for outhouses. Our naturalist was amazing. Many people collected rocks, and the naturalist could tell us all about them on the boat ride back. This was a worthwhile trip, for sure.

I loved this excursion. The hour long trip to the beach was beautiful. Then you take a bus to get to the area where you will don life vests and boots. A short walk and you’re at the canoes where you, several others and a guide will paddle over to another beach where you’ll walk as close as possible to the Davidson glacier. Is it close enough? No, but still a fun excursion. Lunch is not that great. It would be nice and save time to give a sac lunch for everyone to eat on the boat trip back instead.

Definitely worth it! We started out on a boat ride, very smooth boat ride, bus ride, short hike, then canoed to the glacier. The views are AMAZING! After the boat ride, bus ride, hike, and canoeing to the glacier, we had a picnic with sandwiches, simple but a nice touch. (They did forget my special lunch -- ordered ahead of time due to food allergy - but they were very apologetic about it. I did feel a little more follow-up would have been nice, but the experience otherwise was wonderful.) The experience is fun and definitely worth it. On the boat ride back, our guides (Natalie, I believe, but I cannot remember the driver's name, unfortunately) had scouted out the area and took us to see sea lions (hundreds of them) that were laying on rocks. They gave us time to truly enjoy them. We saw a whale (YAY!). We were able to drive right up to a waterfall that was gushing. FABULOUS! Note: The hike was long enough to make you feel like you hiked in Alaska without it being strenuous. The canoe ride was fun, and again just long enough to be fun without being strenuous. Tip: Take bug repellent spray or wipes. We did, so the bugs weren't an issue. If we hadn't, it would have been a different story, cause they were swarming a bit in the beginning.
