I've been on a lot of whale watching boats (since I'm from Monterey, CA, one of the other whale watching capitals of the world), and Eclipse Charters has them beat, hands-down! The staff (from Captain Dan to the two naturalists on board) are amazingly friendly, professional, knowledgable, and friendly! They've definitely found their calling, and were very good about making the rounds to interact with all of the guests on board during our tour. We were able to ask all of our general and specific questions about the local flora and fauna, and their enthusiasm was genuine and contagious! The boat itself is the most comfortable and clean whale watching boat we've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Nice tables/seating areas in a heated cabin, snacks and drinks available for purchase (although everyone on our trip seemed to plan ahead and brought full coolers of picnic lunches and snacks, too), binoculars and even extra layers of clothing, hats, and sunglasses were available to borrow! The boat was very clean, and the captain was clearly very good at his job. We saw bald eagles, harbor seals, and even four transient orcas! The viewing deck on top of the main cabin is perched high enough to easily see over the other whale watching boats, and it was very heartening to see that ALL of the operators seemed very respectful about keeping more than the minimum viewing distance away from the hunting/feeding orcas, so that we didn't disturb them. I so appreciated that. Bring cash tips, because this crew deserves them! We will go out with them again some time, even just to enjoy an afternoon scenic tour!

The staff is great, Captain Dan and his wife Denise are delightful. The 2 conservationists aboard were informative and fun to get to know. We saw the local pod of orca's, we tried to catch up to some minka whales but missed them, but we saw 2 humpback whales flipping there tales and playing. The boat is great, lots of great places to view, even good sites inside. Nice part was they assign each group a booth inside so they can leave their stuff and not feel like they will loose their spot if they walk around. Gloves, binoculars, and coats were provided. There is nothing they didn't think of. This was a wonderful experience we will never forget.

We had a good experience with Island Eclipse whale watching. We saw 2 gray whale several times, once really close by and quite a few Minke whales. Unfortunately we did not get to see the resident or migrating orcas which is what we had really hoped to see. We really liked the Captain who also showed us the seals and the bald eagles. We loved Tina especially who was very helpful to my mom and playful with my kids. The boat was quite comfortable. Unfortunately the naturalist on board was abrupt with us and didn't really interact with my girls who wanted to ask her questions.
