Hale Hoaloha Luau at the Mauna Lani

The luau is held at the beautiful Mauna Lani, Auberge Resort at Kalāhuipuaʻa, which is a historical area where ancient Hawaiians mastered the art of aquaculture and where King Kamehameha came to recuperate and work in the fishponds.

Guests are welcomed with a traditional Oli (chant) in preparation for preliminary activities with the cast. After the activities, watch as the pig is taken out of the traditional imu pit before it is prepared for the Hawaiian buffet.

The program is capped off by a performance of traditional and modern Hula dances, along with the spectacular Samoan Siva Afi (fire knife dance).

Hale Hoaloha Luau at the Mauna Lani

The Hale Hoaloha Lūʻau is a celebration of the beauty and stories of the land area known as Kalāhuipuaʻa. Considered the “piko” (center) of the majestic mountains of Haleakalā, Kohala, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualālai, the Mauna Lani is a special place to all who have the privilege of enjoying its beauty. Traditionally, lūʻaus are important family celebrations with a feast of favorite foods, sharing of moʻolelo (story telling), mele (music) and hula. Hale Hoaloha Lūʻau brings together all of these while sharing Mauna Laniʻs majestic history and the true essence of aloha, ʻohana (family) and kuleana (responsibility) with everyone in attendance.

We had a lovely time at this luau. We purposely booked this one as it seemed the most intimate compared to ones closer to Kona. We were not disappointed. The venue was absolutely beautiful and tastefully decorated. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The food was fantastic and the show itself was beautifully curated. I would go every night if I could have. If you’re going to book a luau this is the one splurge a little more to book, it is well worth it.

This luau was great! Took our family amd it was very beautiful. It was intimate with about 80 guests. Food was amazing and dancers and host were great! Our kids also loved seeing the pig dug out of the ground. Bonus was we got bead leis so we can take them home to remember our fabulous time. Highly recommend this luau.

The Hale Hoaloha luau is a great family luau. My son and daughter, 9 & 6, enjoyed playing the Hawaiian games in the lawn before the show (challenging their parents) and seeing the imu getting dug up. The grounds are beautiful and spacious, and the stars were out full force at night. The food was delicious, especially the poke. The dancers and costuming were amazing. The MC was fun and a great singer. You could tell all the cast members enjoyed putting on the show together. I liked how the show brought in educational elements about the island’s 5 mountains and caring for the islands. I also really enjoyed the authenticity of the Hawaiian dance and chanting. It was truly like being welcomed into their home.
