Hoonah Whale Tours is a family owned whale watching company that operates out of Hoonah, AK. When taking this tour you will be on a private 6 passenger boat tour that goes out into Icy Strait. During the tour will you get the chance to see all sorts of Southeast Alaska wildlife, including bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, sometimes brown bear and orcas and of course humpback whales! Our tours last between 3 and 3.5 hours and we guarantee you'll see whales or you money back. The boat is a 6 passenger catamaran, with a walk around deck, heated cabin, and a bathroom on board. We also provide snacks and beverages.

We booked this tour direct with Hoonah Whale Tours. We were looking for a small, more personal tour and boy - did we get it!. Captain Jordan and his lovely wife were awesome to work with from booking the tour, providing lots of information on whales and of course....providing the opportunity to see a pod of whales bubble feeding, not just once, but 4 bubble feeding events!!!. They took us by to see an eagles nest on our return to the ship and went out of their way to make sure our excursion was memorable. Don't hesitate....book this excursion direct!! You will not be disappointed!

We have just returned from our vacation in Alaska . One of our many highlights was a whale watching tour with these guys. It was utterly brilliant . We wanted to do this on a smaller boat and support s local business and this ticked all the boxes. The whale watching was superb up close and personal - you could even hear the whales through the metal hull of the boat . If you want a small boat experience away from the masses treat yourself to something special , you will be rewarded in spades and you will also be supporting a young local family

Best whale watching ever. I have been on a number of whale watching events in Alaska, Oregon, Hawaii and Mexico and never seen what I saw on the one. It might have to do with the time of year. We saw a number of whales working to catch herring in a circle of bubbles and then come up through them breaking the surface with jaws open. I have seen that process filmed in documentaries but never seen in the wild. The captain of the vessel was very good. All of the people in Hoonah were great. Definitely a place we will come back to.
