While it was an overall laudable effort for the intention behind it, I found the “immersive” experience or lack thereof somewhat “lazy” and quite unimaginative. It was really just like watching a huge surround screen and sound movie - NOT an immersive experience. Perhaps infusion of 3/4D would heighten the experience, some water sprinkles during the thunderstorm etc. There’s loads of room for improvement - I look forward to what the experience could become over time.
Also, the cafe experience was quite underwhelming. A little more research with authentic African input would have gone a long way to serve the audience better. Ie The Nigerian Chapman is historically a NON alcoholic drink that everyone loves, children especially. It’s marked ingredient, which gives it a reddish-orange color ‘grenadine’ was absent; it was rather a pale yellow. If/when Nigerians decide to lace up Chapman, it’s done with Campari / Dubonnet etc. Also had the tandoori chicken which had no tandoori taste, but was over salty, as was the “biryani” - which was also hard undercooked rice with large chunks of unsightly onions.
PS: I’m an Atlanta resident with Nigerian / AfroFusion Hospitality and restaurant management experience. I’m beyond happy to consult/contribute to the Illuminarium Culinary experience.
