Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

Really enjoyed our tour. Our time in the water was perfect. We appreciated the information shared about the Mantas and surrounding area. These magnificent creatures swirled under and around us, making the experience that much more awesome. Would absolutely do again.

My wife and I had a great trip! Check in process was easy. Our crew was Jeff, Eric, and Alex (plus Kaiya the dog) and they were great: very friendly and very professional. One of the guides will stay in the water with you and tell you facts about the rays while you watch them and ask you for any questions. I highly recommend going with a smaller company like Hawaii Oceanic, you get a more personal trip, and they care about you a little more. The trip is totally worth the cost if you’re on the fence about spending that kind of money on a brief tour. Would highly recommend, 10/10 all around.

The crew—Lexy, Justin, Carmelle, and Sara—were fantastic. Lexy greeted us before we boarded the boat, outfitting us with wetsuits and ankle floaters to keep us warm and buoyant in the ocean. Justin and Carmelle were helpful, while Sara, who stayed in the water with us the entire time, was amazing, cool and confident. Her personality and her knowledge of manta facts made the experience even more special. According to Hawaii Oceanic, spotting 3-4 mantas is considered amazing, and I was thrilled after seeing just one. But when several minutes later, mantas after mantas kept coming (we saw a total of 16-20 mantas) and swam up towards us, the entire group gasped in awe. I was so captivated that it felt like I had been transported to another universe. Sara mentioned that while we must not touch the mantas, occasionally they might graze us. I had the incredible experience of having about 8 mantas brush against me from my arms to my feet—it was as if they were gently petting me! The captain advised us not to expect this extraordinary encounter on future trips, as such a sight is incredibly rare. I suspect he didn’t want people to have unrealistically high expectations. But if you do go, I hope you have an experience as magical as this one. I will definitely return with my family next time. What a truly magical experience!
